Unilocular Radiographic Lesions

چکیده
The mechanism of proliferation and expansion remains unclear. Metalloproteinases (MMPs) are associated to diverse pathological conditions. The aim of the present study was to correlate the radiographic aspect (area) and the presence of MMP-2 and MMP-9 in dentigerous cysts, radicular cysts and keratocystic odontogenic tumors. The radiographic area of each lesion was calculated using the mathematical formula of the ellipse area. All specimens were subjected to immunohistochemical analysis for these enzymes. The average radiographic area was 284.17 mm2, 235.81 mm2 and 381.81 mm2, respectively. Statistical analyses revealed no association between the immunoreactivity of MMPs and radiographic area of the lesions in all pathologies studied, except for MMP-2 and radicular cysts, for which smaller lesions had increased immunostaining for this enzyme. The results demonstrate that quantities of MMP-2 and MMP-9 are especially involved with dentigerous and radicular cysts in expansion, whereas these enzymes seem to be related to the biological behavior of keratocystic odontogenic tumors, indicating invasion and cell proliferation. Moreover, there is an inverse association between MMP-2 and MMP-9 in keratocystic odontogenic tumors (p=0.03; rs=-0.660), indicating activity in different regions. Radiographic interpretation of unilocular radiolucent mandibular lesions.
The main goal of this study was to identify the main distinctive radiographic characteristics of different unilocular radiolucent mandibular lesions based on the criteria used by different groups of specialists during the process of radiograph interpretation to arrive at a correct diagnosis. A total of 24 panoramic radiographs were selected exhibiting the following lesions: ameloblastoma, kerat...
متن کاملThe Importance of Radiographic and Histologic Correlation in Diagnosis of Intra-Osseous Mucoepidermoid Carcinoma
Central mucoepidermoid carcinoma (MEC) of the jaws is rare and it comprises 2–3% of all MECs reported in the literature. It may be similar to a glandular odontogenic cyst (GOC), mainly in incisional biopsies. The precise diagnosis of these lesions is essential since they have different treatment modalities and prognosis. This paper presented a 71-year-old male patient presented with a unilocula...

PURPOSE The aim of this study was to evaluate different surgical treatment methods for keratocystic odontogenic tumors (KCOTs) and the outcome of those treatments over a 9-year period. PATIENTS AND METHODS A retrospective review was performed on 43 KCOTs in 39 patients. In radiographic evaluations for diagnosis, follow ups and before and after treatment, panoramic, 3D CT and MR images were us...

متن کاملAdenomatoid odontogenic tumour displacing multiple teeth in an adolescent
Adenomatoid odontogenic tumor is an unusual benign neoplasm which shares clinical and radiographic characteristics with odontogenic cystic lesions denoting a distinct behavior. This paper reports a case of a 12-year-old boy with a bony consistence tumefaction involving the area from teeth 12 to 17. Radiographically, the lesion was characterized by a well-circumscribed unilocular radiolucent are...
